Help me give my students LEGO EV3 sets of robotics parts and curriculum materials to give them an in-depth understanding of science, math, physics, programming, and more through captivating gameplay modes and intelligent features.
We are a small 1-A PK-12 school district. We share students among many programs. The combination provides a strong sense of community where teachers know all of the children and families. We see most parents several times a week participating in many school activities. Many of the children have been in classes together since infancy creating many interesting, sibling-like relationships. They both support and challenge each other every day.
Curious, enthusiastic, and creative, my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge.
They are fearless when it comes to technology and, as children of the 21st century, they need to be prepared to use a variety of tools to engage their world.
My proposed solution is to engage students in a cross-curricular, hands-on learning environment using the LEGO EV3 Mindstorms Robotics Curriculum.
The Lego EV3 Mindstorms robots provide students with an in-depth understanding of science, math, physics, programming, and more through captivating gameplay modes and intelligent features.
This educational theory states that children learn best when they experience things firsthand and within a meaningful context.
The curriculum, which is aligned to national standards, engages students to become more independent learners. The 21st-century skills they will develop include collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving.
It creates a learning environment that addresses the challenges associated with STEM education.
Through this curriculum, many students will design, build, program, and test robots to do a variety of tasks. They learn to control motors and collect data using of a variety of sensors and log the results of experiments at up to 1,000 samples per second.
The curriculum’s classroom instruction includes open-ended problem-solving activities designed to make learning science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through real-life robotics engaging and fun.
Students will demonstrate an increased ability to solve problems and communicate more effectively by applying their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills to address challenges they encounter through the lessons. Additionally, these experiences will help students better comprehend and apply scientific and technical language.
Skills assessment will take place through student presentations and ongoing observation.
