This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges not only in the classroom but out of the classroom as well. Despite the challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences about the world around them.
My students walk into my classroom every day with a smile on their face and they are ready to learn, despite their hardships.
I teach at a school where many of our students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch. I want to provide my students with as many opportunities to grow and learn as possible!
My Project
We need maps. Teachers are winging it by bringing in materials of their own, but I am hoping that someone will jump in and help provide my students with fabulous maps and atlases that can be accessed at will whenever needed. I teach U.S. and World History. How can this effectively be done without understanding where we all come from and the context of where it took place? It's pretty tough.
These maps and Atlases will continue to enhance the geography rich history classrooms that I strive to create.
We live in a world that students need to come to understand. Where do they come from? Where do their classmates come from? What is our relationship to the rest of the country? To the rest of the world? I hope you can help.
