Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Located along the Kootenai River and nestled among three mountain ranges sits a little country school full of the most amazing students in the world. We have high needs and a transient population but our students are cheery, welcoming and eager.
I'm the teacher but I learn from my students every day what it means to persevere and succeed through trials.
I work with students with learning disabilities and special needs. My hope is to support and guide them through their few years in elementary and prepare them for the joy of learning they will experience for the rest of their lives.
My Project
My special education students don't learn in conventional ways and I find most of my teaching preparations tend toward creative and unique ways of presenting math concepts. I spent the last year scouring thrift stores and storage closets to find all I could for my new classroom. I got lucky a few times but in the end I need help filling a need.
Research has proven that the use of math manipulatives can help students connect abstract ideas inherit in math.
My students are exceptional at working hard and persevering in the mist of their trials. I want to help them get passed their learning disabilities and learn and love the subject of math. Each item listed will benefit students with high needs and quench their desire to learn.
