Help me give my students useful manipulatives and other items, such as double sided magnetic white boards, that can be used for whole group, small group, and individual language arts and math lessons!
Kindergarteners are by nature very active and curious - and they have a lot of energy! They like to try new things and learn in fun ways. Every student in my class does not learn at the same rate or the same way, and keeping their attention can be challenging but always rewarding in the end!
"One size fits all" does not apply to my students who come from a wide variety of family backgrounds and economics.
While the school is just one block away from a $1.4 billion dollar tourist industry, the socioeconomic status of the school ranges from upper-middle-class families to homeless families occupying campgrounds and motel rooms. Every child brings a distinctive background to class, and all of the staff at our school work tirelessly to ensure they all leave with a strong future.
My Project
The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom. We use them during whole group lessons, small groups, and in individual work stations. I use them for math, science, social studies, and language arts! The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what the students are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. Magnetic white boards are especially helpful as they can be used with magnetic letters, numbers, pattern tiles, ten frames, counters, etc...the opportunities are nearly endless! I currently have a small supply of white boards in my classroom but they have been stained after many years of use. Fresh whiteboards that I can take care of from the start will provide years of use for many Kindergarteners! In addition, this project includes manipulatives (including magnetic ones) that can be used in whole group, small group, and individual work stations.
Kindergarteners thrive when using hands-on materials!
By donating to this project, you will be putting these materials directly into the hands of of 20+ Kindergarteners and hundreds more over the years.
Students will enjoy being able to complete and show their own work. This will be done in multiple ways and in multiple subjects. Kindergarteners love to "do it themselves" and these whiteboards and manipulatives will allow them to do just that!
