My students need flash cards and math manipulatives to help master math facts and math skills.

I don't like math. It is too hard. Have you ever said or heard someone say those same exact words? Many of the students that are in my classroom do not like math for one reason or another. Because of some of their experiences, math has been a struggle/challenge for them.
Our school is a Title I school located in a highly transient, military-affiliated community.
We are faced with the challenge of meeting academic needs of economically disadvantaged students and those students who traditionally move on a regular basis. The students in our school have varied degrees of academic abilities, from highly gifted to extremely learning disabled. Because of the inclusion initiative, classrooms are formed to included students with mixed abilities. Instruction in the classroom is differentiated to meet the needs of individual students and promote the advancement of the class as a whole. Despite our challenges, the students achieve high levels of academic success. In the 2011-2012 school year, 90% of the students met or exceeded expectations in Mathematics on the state standardized assessment. Our students are highly motivated and eager to learn!
The flash cards will help my students master their basic math skills which include multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. It is hard for students to master other math concepts because of the lack of basic skills. The flash cards will enable them to practice, individually or with a partner, the necessary facts/skills needed to be successful. The manipulative cart is filled with hands-on items that will facilitate learning such things as fractions(adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing), percents, decimals, etc. Since some students learn best by having concrete tools to manipulate, the cart will be an added tool to facilitate learning.
Your donations to this project will have a lasting effect on my students.
What they learn now by using the flash cards and the manipulatives, will have a huge impact all through their school years. Not just middle school, but high school and beyond. The more they learn now, the easier it will be for them to learn more complicated math concepts.
