My students are overcoming many struggles in their homelife which makes the work in the classroom extremely important. My students don’t have access to a lot of extra materials to use in the classroom to help them learn. They have big gaps in their education and need a lot of supplemental materials to help them which we don’t have access to. I want to help my students feel special and not left out because they don't have access to something that can help them learn.
My Project
The literacy and counting manipulatives will be used every day in my classroom to help build the huge achievement gaps my students are facing. Previously they didn't have access to a lot of hands-on learning materials and weren't able to have supplies directly in their hands to help them. Introducing my students to these materials will allow them to practice skills they struggle with daily in whole group and small group settings.
Giving low income students access to these manipulatives is investing in their future so they can learn and grow in the areas of literacy and math.
My students are often two or more grade levels behind from their current grade level. Students will be using these reading and math resources daily to reinforce their learning in the classroom as they interact collaboratively with their peers.
I asked for several variety stamp alphabet sets and sight word builders. These will be used every day for students to develop language and vocabulary so they can grow in reading. Students will use these collaboratively in whole group and small group settings.
The hearing telephones will help students develop fluency in their reading. Many students need to hear themselves reading and the phones allow them to hear themselves without the whole class hearing them. Students will be able to gain confidence in their reading skills.
The counters I am asking for will allow students to develop math pictures using concrete items to help them understand and process math skills daily in whole group and small group settings.
