My students come in every day eager to learn math. They love hands on activities because it keeps them engaged in the lesson. They want to learn, but they all learn in different ways. Most need those hands on manipulatives to help them understand. Every day that I see my students enter my classroom, I can tell that they want to be here and are excited about my class.
Many of my students have a difficult time learning because my community is a low income community.
Some families struggle to find work and in turn that makes it hard to provide food, housing, and other important necessities.
Each student learns differently, and I would love to provide that opportunity for them. I want to see that "light bulb" go off in every student. Our school is driven to provide opportunities to help students succeed in college, trade school, or even the work field.
My Project
The coordinate white boards will help my students stay engaged during our lessons on coordinate planes. Usually they have to complete practice problems in their books, but with the white boards it will be more engaging.
The colored dry erase markers will keep my students attention because black is just so boring.
Seeing color will help me model steps so my students can excel in math. Some of my students cannot afford pencils, erasers, and basic school supplies, so the more I have to give the better prepared students will be in all classes. This will help them excel in class, in their middle school career, and throughout their lives.
