This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first grade students are very curious, confident, and eager to take on Math and STEM challenges daily. They come from low poverty income families, yet they still have an immense desire to learn. They are very excited about problem-solving and engaging themselves into the throes of learning. They love math problem solving projects and challenges. They love exploring ways to engage each other and encourage each other to achieve their personal goals. Oftentimes, we are in need of more manipulatives, supplies, and resources. Creating a richer and comfortable environment would definitely encourage, as well as promote higher quality and standards of learning. I am eager to watch my students soar to greater heights this school year!
My Project
I want to engage my students with a variety of activities and ideas for mathematical practices. I want them to feel empowered in the opportunity to dig deep in their learning and to become encourage by their experience. Through their exploration, they gain confidence, ownership of their learning, and gain academic success. They develop a sense of teamwork and a community of learning and leadership. All students are able to gain a sense of meaningful support and encouragement through creative learning. Meanwhile mathematics creates many meaningful challenges an opportunities. Awesome!
