Help me give my students the opportunity to master math through manipulation! Students that use manipulatives, such as the Ten Frames Trays, money and fraction games are increasing their number sense and developing a solid mathematical foundation!
My students walk through the door every morning with a positive attitude, love for learning, and eagerness to begin a new day! I want them to know that they are capable of great things and that they can be anything they want to be. They are mathematicians, readers, authors, scientists, historians, and explorers. But in a noisy world, I want them to know that most of all, they are heard.
I work in a large school where the backgrounds, abilities, and needs of my students are extremely diverse.
Some of my students are living in poverty, while others are still learning English. Some are reading many levels above grade level, while others have behavior struggles. However, one thing rings true for all of my 22 students - they love learning and they want to be the very best version of themselves. My students set personal and academic goals for themselves and they work extremely hard every year to achieve their goals.
My Project
Students that engage in using math manipulatives are increasing their number sense and developing a solid mathematical foundation!
Math manipulatives build students' confidence by giving them a way to test and confirm their reasoning.
If students have physical evidence of how their thinking works, their understanding is more robust. Math manipulatives help make abstract ideas concrete. Manipulative materials serve as concrete models for students to use to solve problems. Manipulatives make learning math interesting and enjoyable. These tools give students an engaging way to solve a problem with colorful and interestingly shaped blocks. Manipulatives intrigue and motivate while helping students learn.
With the tools such as the Learning Resources Connecting Ten-Frame trays and base ten blocks offer the students a concrete representation of numbers. Having Magnetic Tile Building blocks and the Learning Advantage set of mini geometric shapes allows students to understand and create three dimensional shapes. Math manipulatives like dice, decks of cards, and foam counters engage students in mathematical explorations and discoveries.
