My students need access to math manipulatives, such as Unifix cubes, decimal tiles, and place value blocks, to strengthen their understanding of math in a visual and concrete way.

My Students
I serve students from local Native American tribes and two campground communities. I love these students because they come from a community rich in support and determination.
Most of my students are categorized as ELD and work very hard to engage in lessons and better their English speaking skills.
They are focused and offer a variety of experiences to the classroom that make our learning fun and engaging.
My students are focused on preparing themselves for middle school. I teach a combo classroom for 4th and 5th grade students. We work in groups, and individually, to prepare them for the higher grades, and to improve on their skills within a classroom.
My Project
By providing our classroom mathematical manipulatives, students will be able to participate in math with a hands-on approach. This gives them to ability to see math in a concrete way, rather than just numbers on a white board.
Manipulatives allow students access to the physical world.
By providing them the materials on my list (building blocks, snap cubes, tiled dots, etc.), they can developed math strategies for their questions by building the equation in a physical way. Learning become fun and students start to see the benefit of learning math as a foundation for their lives in the future.
I want to empower them to develop their own strategies!
