This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students of all ages are in love with manga, a style of graphic novels originating in Japan, and our students are no different! My students are drawn to these high interest, often action-packed books filled with exciting illustrations and fast-paced dialogue, many of which feature popular kid-focused franchises like Super Mario Bros. and Pokemon. They are constantly clamoring for more manga to be added to our school library collection.

As a librarian in an elementary school with students who face academic challenges and economic insecurity, I am always on the lookout for library books that will engage students in reading for pleasure, and manga is a huge crowd-pleaser for my kiddos!

The funding of this project will DOUBLE the current manga collection in the library, ensuring continued interest in reading for fun.
