Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students come from low income families and all qualify for free and reduced lunches. My students are an active bunch of 5th graders who have a variety of interests. Some love sports, others love reading, or playing educational games on the computer. One thing they all have in common, is their LOVE of lunch and recess time where they get to socialize and interact with each other.
Their liveliness can be attributed to their age, but sometimes they need a little help calming themselves down when it's time for learning.
It is our hope through your generosity we can get some items to help calm our classroom and maximize our learning.
My Project
Our classroom needs tools to help us stay focused, and on-task so we can learn as efficiently as possible.
Our classroom has transitioned to a lot of group activities that require active discussions.
Our principal calls this "loud learning." However, sometimes we need to stop and have whole group discussions, or refocus ourselves. The items we have selected will help keep us focused on learning. The timer will keep us on track so we can finish our work and assignments in a timely fashion. The doorbell will be used by Ms. Trimble to signal us to come together for a discussion or calm us down when we're a little too "spirited." We also chose light filters to help create a calming atmosphere for when we come back from lunch and recess, or when switching classes. We also believe these filters will help some of our special needs students by reducing the harsh fluorescent lights. We hope all these items will help our classroom run efficiently and get down to business a lot quicker.
We've also chosen some rewards, such as bookmarks, fancy pencils and pencil sharpeners, we would enjoy for being on-task or doing the right thing.
