Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Barack Obama once stated, "Reading is the gateway skill that makes all other learning possible, from complex word problems and the meaning of our history to scientific discovery and technological proficiency." Help the future mathematicians, scientists, engineers, and educators of the world gain access to the career of their dreams! The National Children's Book and Literacy Alliance reported that [64 percent of eighth-graders are reading below grade level, whereas 36 percent are reading at or above grade level]. This is alarming and a social justice issue.
All students deserve access to a quality education regardless of their zip code.
As an educator, I work diligently every day in an effort to close the word gap, but it is challenging when our classroom has limited books.
My Project
My scholars have just begun their third quarter of the school year and despite having a limited library, they are more motivated than ever to exceed their reading goals and end the year on grade level.
In order to maintain our reading investment strong and in honor of the late Kobe Bryant we are launching the first-ever March Madness + Mamba Mentality Tournament = MAMBA MENTALITY READING MADNESS!
GET EXCITED BECAUSE WE ALREADY ARE! However, our library is in need of new and relevant books to keep our scholars' investment strong throughout this tournament! Through the donation of these books, our scholars will be eager to run to our Guided Reading block and show off who has MAMBA MENTALITY!!
