Help me give my students the materials that they so desperately need to learn, practice, perform & compete on a daily basis!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students attend an inner city, Title 1 school. They are a school with free and reduced lunches, low income and the drop out rate is rising. The kids have become a diverse "band family" full of hardworking, ambitious and enthusiastic middle school students. They perform in variety of student requested ensembles that compete and they give back to the Community by performing annually for various events through the hospital, military and more.
These students LOVE band, it's their favorite class of the day and for many it's the only reason that they come to school.
However, they are in need of xylophone, cymbal and timpani mallets, drum sticks & a variety of concert and jazz percussion accessories to continue performing, practicing, and participating on a daily basis. The students have been using a set of broken mallets, sticks and accessories that are beyond repair. Our county, school, parents and students do not have the resources to purchase the necessary instruments and supplies for band. It is up to our band director, students and parents to develop a plan to financially support the band.
Our students are in desperate need of sticks and mallets in the band room to rehearse on a daily basis in the percussion section. The students cannot rehearse/practice without them and therefore are at an academic disadvantage. The students sticks and mallets are the equivalent of having their pencils for class.
By donating to our band program you are not only supplying them with the materials that are desperately needed, you are giving them the chance to be competitive in musical performance not just in our classroom but across other schools, counties and states.
These students will be able to prepare for high school, concerts, competitions, and much, much more. This will allow them to have the same opportunities as the other students in the county that will attend the same future ensembles. They are not able to learn, practice or compare to schools that have these at their disposal. Our current materials are held together with duck tape, electrical tape and have been super glued multiple times.
With your generous donations our kids will have the opportunity to audition for scholarships for music camps, private lessons, competitions and more. Percussion and band by nature are a teamwork program, without everyone on the team participating it is nearly impossible to produce a quality performance, practice, program or ensemble that they can be proud of. Please give these students that hope that they so desperately need for a better future tomorrow!
