This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students need mallet instruments to learn a variety of music standards. We already funded 10, bring 10 more to my class so that more of my students can get time of these instruments!
I teach 680 K-4 students at a high poverty, low-performing school.
This year will be the first year that my students will get an instrumental music education in elementary school. I have been told by parents, teachers, and community members how much the students love music class and how excited they will be to have a music class where they are learning quality music and playing instruments as well as singing.
My Project
These simple mallet instruments are much like glockenspiels, but include chromatic notes. This means that my students will learn all of the important musical skills and concepts that they would with a glockenspiel (note relationships, percussion skills, teamwork, personal responsibility) as well as learn about chromaticism and half-steps. What more could you ask for?!
I meet my students on Thursday.
I hope to greet them with a music experience that they have never had before. Please help me make this year and all that follow a year of learning and musical enjoyment that includes a comprehensive instrumental education.
