Mallets And Wind Chimes To Make The Musical Motor Run
Help me give my students mallets and wind chimes to raise the level of there performance quality! We are hoping to defend our state championship in percussion this spring, but our old mallets are falling apart.
The Capital High Band is a great group of kids! We have students of every background and we provide a great music education to each of them. Everyday the students come together and create music that is beautiful and educational. While they are learning about music they also are there for each other. There are days when students are having a hard time (a few examples from this year are students that do not enough food at home, get kicked out of the house, parents get sent to prison, or just having a hard day) and other kids are there for emotional support or sometimes even help out with resources when possible. They know they music is a tool for connecting with the soul, not just superficially, and work hard to improve their craft daily.
The Capital Band is a happy bunch of kids who represent our school and community extremely well!
When we travel, people come to me to tell me how kind and respectful the band it. It gives me hope for our future knowing that some day these students will be leading their communities and the world with kindness and respect, something to share with the world.
My Project
In band, the percussion section adds all the effects, colors, musical nuance, while helping to provide tempo as the motor of the band. Without the percussion section, band would be so much more dull and would not provide nearly the same excitement and interested for all of its application (marching bands, concert bands, movie soundtracks, ect.)
Band without percussion is like a cake without frosting/sprinkles, while it may be good the presentation and taste is greatly improved by adding the toppings.
The same is true with band!
Our percussion section is also the state champions from last year! We are a title one school and work very hard to compete with all the other programs in the state. This would help us continue to compete at a state level and may even be able to push us into competing at a national level!
