I work in a very large elementary school in a suburban neighborhood in Virginia. Our school has approximately 1100 students and is growing because of lots of new development being built around the school.
Our school is a "Leader In Me" school.
Our school teaches the Franklin Covey's Seven Habits. My students love to work on "Habit 6 - Synergize" in music class as it takes lots of synergy to create music! My students love to shine as leaders throughout the school, especially in music performances.
My school is large and we have outgrown our building. Most classes come to music with a second class and that class is team-taught by myself and another colleague. When we teach we see 42-48 students in our classes.
The population at my school represents students from many different cultures and economic backgrounds.
My Project
We need mallets so our students can share our alto glockenspiels allowing more than one student on the glockenspiel or to simply play songs that may use more than two mallet. We also need a bookshelf to keep some of our xylophones on and to keep the instruments safely stored and off the ground and organized.
A bookshelf would help keep the Orff instruments organized and safe so they don't get stepped on or knocked over accidentally.
We use the xylophones often, so the shelf would be in our classroom making our instruments more accessible rather than being in the music storage closet. Students would be able to help get the xylophones to and from the shelves easily. We would love your support to help get these instruments off the floor and organized!
