My Students

My students are some of the most creative and curious people I have ever met. Every day they surprise me!

As an educator I want to create an environment for them in which they feel safe to explore, create, and express themselves.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and home lives but always take on every challenge I give them without hesitation. They have done everything from creating their own musicals to dancing expressively with classical music. I am proud of them each and every day.

My Project

Orff instruments are essential to every music classroom. Students not only enjoy playing melodic instruments but it teaches them so much that percussion and other simpler classroom instruments do not.

Barred Orff instruments such as the xylophones and metallophones teach students hand-eye coordination, teamwork, internal pulse and rhythm and how to express themselves melodically.

Students as young as 4-years-old are able to compose music with the help of removable bars and smaller instruments. The instant gratification that percussion instruments supply a student is important in helping them feel successful in creating music. The more comfortable they become with the instruments as they get older, the more ready they will feel to compose larger scale projects!
