My Students

A typical day in my classroom is very unique. I usually have a 3-5 minute class meeting to hear what is important to my students. We then do our Vocabulary prep for the ACT and also do reading passages together. My favorite quote is by Ghandi- Be the change you wish to see in this world. Malala IS.

Our students come from diverse backgrounds but have usually dropped out of school or have been kicked out of their high school.

We service students between the ages of 16-22 with the hopes to make a difference in the outcome for these students that seems other schools have given up on. We have a lot of angry students however once they see we truly care, the anger seems to fade for some of them. Our graduating classes continue to increase in size so we must be doing something right!

My Project

We will be able to take the students on a field trip that is not something we are normally able to afford. This trip will be a treat to them while also helping them to expand their knowledge of customs around the world and maybe realize how lucky they are to be able to have the right to education here in the USA. Hopefully they will see that is okay to stand up for what you believe in and Be the change we need in our community!

This project will give something to these children that they do not get otherwise.

It will also give them OUR TIME. Time is more precious than money. By giving up my lunch break to be with them and going out into the community proudly with my students I want them to realize I am proud of them for continuing on even when there are days they feel like they want to quit. I want this to show them to never give up on their dreams!
