Each year I teach a room full of All-Star second graders who are eager to learn! The group beginning this fall is extremely bright, energetic, and creative! However, they face many challenges. We have many “at-risk” students in our school, and our school is the only school in our low-income/rural community. We have qualified for a free breakfast/lunch program. Many of our students have a lot of family struggles but have a lot of support!
The group of kids coming to 2nd grade is truly an incredible, loving group and I am so lucky and thankful to have a group of learners that will be excited and eager to learn!
Due to the way this school year is ending, with such an extended period of remote learning, the kids will begin the year further behind than normal. They will need all the extra support and hands-on learning experiences as possible. We have all been in this together, and we will come into school ready to work hard. It will be a great and successful year!
My Project
This next school year I will be teaching guided reading. During rotations, I will have a small group of students with whom I will work with on their level on their specific needs. One center will be word work, in which the students will be building/making words. In order to make this a memorable hands-on experience that will benefit the students, they need these magnetic letters to manipulate. Once they begin mastering words and learning new decoding strategies they can use the word game to practice what they have learned. Students will use these materials daily in order to help them with word fluency!
This is a project that will benefit multiple students for years to come!
This year I have had to borrow magnetic letters each day from kindergarten. Please consider helping us get our own classroom set!
