Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a reading specialist, I work with students in Kinder, First, and Second grade and they are such motivated students who are eager to learn. They work so hard to learn how to read using letter sounds and eventually read words and sentences. They usually participate in class and love to work with materials that help them learn better, like hands-on tools such as magnetic letters.

By having access to the magnetic letters in their classes and in my classroom, students will be able to build words and patterns to help them read and spell.

Students will be able to focus on the spelling pattern they are learning, build words with that pattern, and then find words in their books or classroom that match. By practicing these spelling patterns often, they will become more proficient readers and writers.

Since these magnetic letters come in well-designed boxes that separate each letter into separate compartments, students can easily select the letters they need and efficiently build words independently. The magnetic letters can be used along with me in a small group of five to six students as I teach them new skills. Each student can build words in the group because the kit comes with multiple sets per letter. This makes teaching the lessons much easier because every student will have their own materials to use. Each student will get the practice they need.
