Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Memorizing vocabulary can be an onerous task, even for the best student. One of the most successful methods for memorization has been though creating note cards that students can use to study while riding the subway or waiting in line at the cafeteria. But for most of my students, getting and organizing their vocabulary index cards is a constant struggle. Many students use scraps of notebook paper torn into small pieces for their note cards -- which hinders their ability to keep organized. For this proposal, I am requesting spiral-bound index cards for my students. With these, students will become more organized and will enhance their vocabulary (something that will help them on both the NY State English Regents examination and the SAT). Having a cool and fun device will inspire the students to take vocabulary seriously. My high school, Martin Luther King Jr. High School for Law, Advocacy and Community Justice, was formed in 2002. With 90 percent of the students qualifying for free lunch and many students below level in reading and mathematics, getting students to embrace learning and come to school has been a challenge. Your kind donation will help aid this challenge, creating organized students with college-level vocabularies.
