My students are fun-loving 5th and 6th graders who come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. As a technology teacher, I work with our entire school population. Our school is an inclusive setting, encompassing students with a variety of academic levels. In this environment, there are students with IEPs in place and others who are a part of the gifted and talented program. My district encourages five core values which play a large part in my classroom: compassion, perseverance, integrity, respect, and responsibility.
My students are active, mobile learners.
Keeping them engaged throughout the school day is imperative. At the 5th and 6th grade level, they are at a crossroads in education. It is my job, as their teacher, to encourage them and ensure that their love for learning continues as they progress into middle and high school.
My Project
The virtual reality headset and the tablets will enhance my students' learning on a multitude of levels. The virtual reality headset will allow my students to take virtual field trips, as in-person trips are not possible this year. It will allow them to participate in activities that they would otherwise not get the opportunity to at this time. The tablets will also be a great resource for our classroom. Students will be able to engage in the material in different ways. They can take pictures and videos of assignments or lessons to increase their knowledge.
The tablets and virtual reality headset will go a long way.
If learning turns back to virtual, I will be able to use these items to engage the students from home. We will get a lot of use out of both items regardless of our learning environment.
