Making Time for Global Citizens

My Students

I teach Spanish at a rural high school that is completely free lunch. My students are studying Spanish and are eager to learn about the language and different cultures.

I would love for them to have a set of clocks around the room telling the time in different Spanish-speaking countries.

These clocks reflecting different times zones would help them in their quest to be global citizens. They would be a daily reminder that the world is bigger than just what is happening in the United States.

My Project

As a Spanish teacher, I teach so much more than just language. Students learn about the cultures of different groups of people. Many of them have never left the United States. In an effort to get them thinking outside the U.S., I would like to post various clocks around my room to display the time in different parts of the Spanish-speaking world. It would help them when we learn time, calculate time zone differences, or plan Skype call with other schools in other countries. I believe seeing these different times on a daily basis would remind students that the world is much bigger than what they know of in Kentucky.
