My students are about to be given the opportunity of a new technology program at our school. They imagine worlds both alike and different from their own. It is my desire that they be able to construct objects out of any resources they can manipulate with their hands, and they often see the opportunity for creation even when adults cannot.
It is my desire tp encourage students to fail forward, in order to learn from their experiences and persevere when faced with challenges.
We are creating a STEAM Lab and Makerspace to keep in step with new thinking and methodology by focusing on students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These characteristics will create the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century! This class will make a concerted effort to incorporate exposures to technology, engineering, art, and mathematical applications, and make it relevant to their world and interests. The curriculum will be student-driven, and ever-morphing to meet their needs.
My Project
I am requesting the opportunity to attend a professional development conference taught by STEM experts. This conference will allow me to gain strategies and ideas for creating a robust curriculum that I can implement in my classroom. I am confident that the knowledge I will gain from this conference will help me to become an effective Maker Space / STEAM teacher. The knowledge I will attain from this experience will benefit my students for years to come.

Many of my students' are inquisitive and want to explore different concepts. This conference will allow me to develop lessons and units to integrate with core content (math, English, social studies, and science) instruction. The STEAM Lab will become more than just a place to tinker with cool machines and technology. Students will get opportunities that they have not had before.
