Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to my class each day because they love music and technology. As a high school teacher in the arts, I get to work with students in all four grades with a variety of backgrounds and skill levels. I get to show them how the music, films, and TV shows they enjoy on their own time are created and how they can make their own. When they leave my classes, students have gained hands-on experience and 21st-century skills that will undoubtedly help them in their after high school lives.
Our students don't always get the support they need and desire at home so it is my job to provide that every day.
My teaching is driven by providing our students with the same opportunities that other students the next town over are getting and breeding the confidence they need to believe in themselves. It is my hope that every student that takes a technology arts class at EHHS will learn something that interests them as well as something they can use in life outside of school.
My Project
Next year, EHHS will be adding a new course for students called Video Production. In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn about film techniques, styles of videos, live news shows, and many other aspects of video. This class is new to our school but common amongst HS in the state and across the country and it is because of this, I felt the need to add it to our program of studies.
Any technology class's success is based on students' access to industry-standard equipment.
This access is directly linked to funds available and resources present at the time. EHPS has made a substantial commitment to this class next year in securing funds for a brand new iMac lab at the school but other supplies are needed. The addition of these SanDisk Memory Cards to our classroom supplies will allow students the opportunity to save and organize their own film footage and not get lost in the mix with everyone else's. This way students can stagger their filming and editing work throughout the class period and always be working on something and not waiting for equipment to be free.
