This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach music to all the Kindergarten through 5th grade students at my school. We have a diverse range of students, and many of my students are English Learners and/or new to country.
In music class we build community, nurture creativity, and explore new skills that students will carry with them throughout their school years and beyond.
Although I see students for a short amount of time each week, their progress throughout the year is amazing. They are constantly surprising me!
My Project
Each week, I see students for 50-100 minutes, depending on the week. With such a small amount of time and so much content to cover, we need all the help we can get to be efficient learners. This project contains three items that will help us in this goal.
Each item in this project will help students be more independent and responsible learners.
The drawer cart will allow students to access different materials that they can use as they need them, without having to ask me for direction. The pencil sharpener will allow students to get to their work much more quickly (as compared to our current broken hand crank sharpener). Finally, the flexible seating stools will help eliminate some behavior problems and will help us get to our activities.
