Help me give my students Ten Frame Trays, Number Balances, Rekenrek Counting Frames, Magnetic Numbers, Cuisenaire Rods, Dice, Playing Cards, Mini GeoSolids and many more math manipulatives with organizational boxes to use during guided math.
We love to learn! These students can't wait to see what school and the world have in store for them and are so enthusiastic about learning! They are highly active and very energetic. They love to be hands-on and communicate with one another.
Our classroom is filled with 25 bright, beautiful, and blooming first graders who have a thirst for learning as much as they can each and every day.
Our classroom is located in Western Pennsylvania.
In our room, it feels comfortable, looks bright, and has constant movement, just the way we like it! It is an environment that welcomes all children and they love being here! I love it, too!
My Project
I am requesting many math manipulatives to use during guided math time. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of math centers using a variety of math tools to assist them in their learning. Students will use rekenreks and number balances to help build concrete learning experiences when practicing part-part-whole. They will practice fact families by using dry erase number boards. Some of the math centers will use dice, playing cards, ten frames, etc. which are all requested in this project. This project will be highly effective because it will give the students the chance to choose which math tools to use and which centers to complete all while the teacher meets with small groups to reteach or enrich our math curriculum.
Early math is just as important as early reading.
First graders need a solid math foundation! Math is important for so many reasons such as being responsible to make smart choices with your finances, leading to careers, and using numbers in our every day lives. These first graders need to be given as many opportunities as possible to help lead to success later on and most importantly, they need to have a positive attitude towards math. After all, math is FUN!
