My students are participating in a bilingual education program in Madison, WI. In this program the students are taught half of the day in English and half in Spanish. I have a caseload of 15 students with a variety of special education needs ranging from learning disabilities to high functioning Autism. I work with the students on my caseload along with all students in the classroom in a supportive role as a co-teacher or teaching small group intervention type instruction. More than 75% of the students that I work with are English Language Learners who speak Spanish at home.
Middle school students come to school with a variety of challenges and having disabilities only adds to the difficulties that my students face on a daily basis.
I am encouraged by the positive attitudes and enthusiasm that my students bring to school every day. They work very hard through everything they face to make the best out of their education. I enjoy watching them learn and grow into independent young men and women as we work together as a learning community.
My Project
My students have small group intervention during math class in order to help them understand the material being taught as well as fill in holes in their understanding of previous information that they need to advance in math. The bins and binders will help to keep materials for each math group organized for the the 3 different periods of math intervention.
Visual timers will help the students stay on track during each activity during small group instruction.
Many of my students have attention and stamina difficulties when it comes to working academically. The Time Timer Original 12 Inch, 60 Minute Visual Timers will help the students to see how long they need to work on activities, which will help them to focus and do their best for that amount of time.
Many of my students do not come to school with the materials they need. The pencils and erasers will be used for the students to complete work during math class.
