Help me give my students additional tools to solve our future problems. An additional 3D printer will increase the speed of our rapid prototyping and the Dremel kits will develop their subtractive manufacturing techniques.
My classroom is a fun, highly energized, and engaging classroom which encourages innovation. Students collaborate on a variety of projects which push their ability to critically problem solve and increase their intellectual agility. This year, I expect to continue to strengthen their abilities in using the new science and engineering practices (NGSS).
Our student body has increased in size and now surpasses 2500!
My students stem from multiple cultures but are like-minded in pursuing greater academic success. They can sometimes become too critical of their abilities and dwell too long on failure. Because of this my students become confined to a uniform style of thinking and lose sight of potential creativity. After introducing 3D printing and many STEAM strategies, students began designing multiple projects utilizing creative uses of technology which has helped them better cope with failure. Projects that make room for both creativity and multiple designs have made my students stronger in pursuing their unique goals.
My Project
Developing intellectually agile learners through projects is a fun and worthwhile educational strategy. By adding these tools, we hope to increase their exposure to modern engineering problems and create an authentic approach to project-based learning. The development of a Maker Space at our school will give our community space to creatively express projects they so desperately want to complete.
These modern tools help develop my students' ability to create solutions for real-world engineering problems.
Our class currently has 1 working 3D printer and another which needs some additional love and care. My students are fascinated by this technology and want to utilize this in my Living Earth course. However, we currently do not have the ability to truly rapid prototype their designs as I have 160 students which would take too long to serve with one working printer. With the addition of another 3D printer, they would have the ability to complete their projects faster. Additionally, the purchase of Dremel kits and a Dremel press will help students in learning subtractive manufacturing techniques which expose them to practical uses of power tools.
As we continue to adapt and change our content to better educate our students in the various fields of science and engineering, we continually need to update our facilities to better prepare our students to solve our future problems. It is through authentic learning that students gain insight on how solutions are created through process and perseverance rather than getting lucky on the first try. These tools will prepare my students for what's to come and hopefully solve issues facing our world.
