My amazing Pre-K class is located in bright, sunny Florida. Our Pre-K program is connected with the local school district and all of my students who have special needs attend our program free of charge. Our wonderful classroom has 17 precious students with many varying levels of special and sensory needs. We have 13 ESE (Exceptional Student Education) and 4 VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) students. The ages of our class range from three to five year old students.
My students are very caring, loving, and eager to absorb the world around them.
They all learn in a non-traditional way and need hands on experiences on a daily basis to learn and retain new information. Our Pre-K program is relatively new to our elementary school, so we are in need of manipulatives and materials to help meet their needs. These materials will not only help my students in learning and growing, but it will benefit all of the students in our Pre-K ESE/VPK program (a total of 35 students!).
My Project
We are a very creative classroom and my students love anything arts and crafts related. I like to bring a hands-on element to as much of our learning as possible. I believe that children learn and retain more information when they are able to add an element of some sort of hands-on art to their work. The Art Area is a very popular center in our classroom because the children love to create!
The Silhouette Cameo 3 will enable us to take a child's idea and create it for them right before their eyes!
With the teacher's help, the students will use the Silhouette Cameo 3 cutting machine to create various projects right in the classroom. We will also be able to use the Silhouette Cameo 3 to cut out classroom visuals, learning materials, and craftivity materials. (For example, I could mass cut a whole sheet of heart stickers for a Valentine's Day graphing activity or cut various different shapes to create houses, vehicles, or animals in a matter of minutes as opposed to going to the store to purchase heart stickers or spend hours hand cutting and preparing various shapes for our craftivity.)
One project that I know the children will love is personalizing their very own Field Day shirts! They will be able to assist throughout the various steps in the process by typing their name into the computer program, helping to "cut" out the names, weeding the design, and positioning the names on the back of the shirts. This special cutting machine will integrate more technology within the classroom environment and bring a myriad of learning and technology opportunities to my students!
