My students need basic art and music materials, specifically art easels and musical instruments. This order includes enough items to ensure that all primary grades have the necessary resources to explore the visual and musical arts.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work in a community school which has recently been reconfigured to merge two different communities. We teach a multicultural group of children. Almost half of our students are Hispanic, many of whom are not yet fluent in English. Our school is in a rural agricultural area, and many of the children's parents migrated here to work in local farms and nurseries. They are very involved in what we do and want their children to learn everything we can teach them. Our school is a busy place, filled with the joy of hands-on learning.
Many of our students are language impaired, and they communicate differently, often through art and music.
Drawing a picture to show what they mean, or using an instrument to express an emotion are skills that will help them as they grow and learn.
My Project
Greensboro Elementary recently became a primary school, serving grades 3-K through 3rd grade. Music and visual arts feature prominently throughout the school day, whether students are using online resources, participating in teacher-lead activities or exploring independently in classroom workshop areas. However, despite curriculum requirements, much of the necessary materials aren't available to the teachers and students who need them.
This project will level the playing ground of our primary students by providing their classrooms with the equipment and supplies necessary for art and music inclusion.
Each preschool class will have a set of rhythm instruments ensuring that each child will be able to be part of whole-group music activities. They will also have easels for painting and drawing as well as the necessary painting supplies. Every teacher in every grade will have drawing paper, construction paper and poster board for their students' project-based learning activities as well is other shareable art materials.
