I teach AVID (college prep)for all grade levels and I also co-teach an American Studies Honors class (combination English 11 and US History). The students all attend an inner city high poverty, high special-needs school.

Our students have to share 30 laptops amongst 500 students and 1 computer lab--with the entire campus of 2600 students. Not only that, the 30 laptops we have can't hold a charge longer than three minutes. So we have to unplug them all which creates a maze of cords for all of us to trip over.

By having a set of computers that could remain in my classroom at all times children could use them without fear of battery dying in the middle of creating their movie or slide show. Nor would they have to be concerned about losing their college applications. I could rotate the groups allowing more equal access to a reliable computer!

My students are GREAT and deserve the best. They deserve access to the same technology all township schools have. We shouldn't have to beg, borrow or steal to get access to computers for college essays, applications, etc. It also allows us to still have access during times that the school takes over the few labs we have for surveys or tests that we aren't aware of until the last minute! Please EMPOWER my kids by giving them access to technology on a regular basis.
