This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students reside in Riviera Beach, FL. Entering fourth grade can be a difficult task for some students, due to state testing the previous year. Oftentimes, students have been retained in 3rd grade or previous grades, so they begin to become discouraged with school.
They are bright and have a beautiful future ahead of them.
I would love to see my students become college graduates and live successful lives one day. With that goal, there are different things I would like to implement this school year to push them to the next level.
My Project
The love of reading is slowly disappearing within our children. From playing games to watching YouTube, technology has taken over. Reading for pleasure isn’t the “thing” to do anymore. I want to build the love of reading within my students. To do this, I will start my very first book club.
The book club will consist of us reading The Indian in the Cupboard together as a class.
Class discussions about the book will be conducted along with a compare and contrast of the book and movie. Within this project is also a guided reading kit. Along with reading for enjoyment my students also need material to help me dig deeper into their reading needs/skills. With these two items, I can encourage my students to love reading and become stronger readers!
