Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are second language learners and are in the dual language program. Our school is a Title I school and the majority of my students qualify for the free or reduced-priced lunch program.
Many of my students have been displaced after Hurricane Harvey and are still living with family members or friends months later and are struggling financially and emotionally.
I teach three dual language Pre-K classes made up of 60 students with 50% of the time taught in English and 50% of the time in Spanish. My students have been affected by Hurricane Harvey with family businesses being closed, homes going through rebuilding and families being displaced. My students are ready to move on and learn and with donations made to our classroom, they will be able to accomplish this.
My Project
We are a Title I school and so it is difficult for all parents to contribute to the many special events we have throughout the year.
This project will help all of our kids have the arts supplies we need for all the holidays and special events we have this year.
We will have Christmas crafts for each student and Christmas bags for all their goodies. Valentine's Day, Thanksgiving and the 100th day of school will have nice crafts to work on for all the kids in both classes. A portable bookcase will give us the flexibility to move books anywhere in the room. Large crayons will make it harder for kids to break them as they learn to color and work on projects.
