My scholars are IB students at an urban inner-city school. Our curriculum is both diverse and rigorous. We strive to provide high quality education to students from all walks of life. My classroom is project-based, and scholars lead their own learning with guidance and examples from both me and other professionals in the field. Fulfilling goals set by them for them helps my scholars learn the importance of independence and free thinking.
My students are special because of their universal drive to achieve rigorous academic goals for college and beyond.
They are public-school students who have opted in to an extremely demanding college preparatory program. About 60% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price meals, and our student body represents a diverse group of black, white, Latino, multiracial, and Asian students from all neighborhoods of a large city in Indiana.
My Project
In world language classrooms, authentic resources make the language come alive and open a door to learning about other countries and cultures. These resources, referred to as realia, can include advertisements, menus, maps, recipes, brochures, and more. Rather than teaching from a dry textbook, I aim to teach through authentic cultural experiences so that my students will view my class as a portal to the wide world around them.
Please help me purchase this digital book of authentic resources so that my students can have authentic experiences with the Spanish-speaking world.
This book includes over 400 pages of realia, organized by thematic unit and paired with suggested instructional activities. This resource will be invaluable to us as we explore the beauty and diversity of the Hispanic world.
