Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the many perks of being a middle school librarian is the opportunity to interact with students from many walks of life. My school has students from all over the world. They come from Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. They also come to the library! They are eager students who want to learn and they use the library to reach their goals.

One service that I don't offer is Maker Spaces.

I have a computer lab, but it doesn't take the place of an organized maker space. I have traditional board games that they use in the mornings. They also use the computer lab to play games and do some coding. I know that they would love to have yet another option of working in maker spaces.

My Project

My student patrons come to the library for many reasons. One of the popular hangouts is an area with board games and blocks. They have demonstrated creativity with these popular games!

Students love to be creative in my library.

I'd like to extend that positive energy into developing maker spaces opportunities when we return to school in August.

Learning how to create a special space for maker space activities will be a welcome addition to the library. My students will be so glad to create while learning in fun ways.
