My 6-8th grade students are part of the largest and most diverse school district in the state of Maine. Equity is at heart of all we do and we are striving to develop students who are Empowered and Prepared. I am striving to implement restorative practices to manage disruptive classroom behaviors. These tools will be used to help to teach students to understand and manage their emotions. I'm creating a special, calm space where students can sit, reflect and write letters as one way to repair harm. Lighting, comfortable seating, quality writing supplies and inspirational art set the tone. This helps students to feel the importance and value of what they are doing. By supporting students and teaching them how to "make things right" after making a mistake, we empower them and help them to grow.
