Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our charter school is a public school that serves 590 creative students in grades K-8. High expectations for student achievement, strong partnership with families and an emphasis on literacy as a tool for leadership are the hallmarks of our school.
As the PE teacher it is my responsibility to motivate my students to get active and to help them develop and maintain healthy life habits.
I am aware that my classes play a decisive role in whether or not my students see physical activity as fun and important, and in turn inspire them to make a lifelong commitment to regular exercise and movement.
My Project
We have a limited space available for our physical education classes (the size of an empty classroom), but I try to make the best and most creative use of it. It’s not always easy to step up to the challenge and develop a highly aerobic and engaging physical education program.
For this reason, I’m continuously looking for activities and equipment which keep large classes active and safe in a limited space, but at the same time they are loved by students and keep them interested.
That is where the safe soccer balls and floor tape come in!
My students come from cultures where soccer is a very popular sport. At our school we dream of top-flight aerobic and skill development equipment that makes the most flexible use of our gym space. At the moment, our dreams outpace our current limits. You can help continue our goal to inspire our students to develop a joy for physical activity.
