Help me give my students mini-flashlights to read with during Flashlight Fridays and sturdy book bins where they can store their books between reading sessions.
We are a small, Title I school in an urban city in HI. I have 27 keiki (children) in my classroom. My third graders are from primarily Filipino and Pacific Islander backgrounds (92% of our school) and they love to read!
This year, I would like to make reading magical for them.
I would like to purchase mini-flashlights so that we can use them to read on Flashlight Fridays. It's a gimmick, but it makes reading really fun for them and anything that promotes happy memories of reading is worth pursuing in my book. I would also love to provide a safe, sturdy place for them to store their books that they have chosen to read during our silent reading time. I would like to buy book bins for each student to use to store their books so that they stay organized in our classroom.
My Project
I have a large class this year with a diverse group of readers. I want to do the most that I can do to boost a love of reading and to make our silent reading time organized and something that they look forward to doing every day!
I am trying to purchase small flashlights for every student to use during Flashlight Fridays so that they can use them to make reading magical and fun.
We also need a way to organize our books for silent reading so that we can minimize damage to books so they aren't crammed in desks or backpacks or take up precious space on top of their desks. It will also make it easier to see which books they are selecting and reading. So, I would like to purchase book bins. Providing these items for my classroom will really help make our reading times fun and efficient!
