I teach a kindergarten class of 35 amazing students. Our Elementary is a fantastic school, and I love teaching at this school. Our school is a Title I school where all of the students are offered free breakfast and lunch, as well as the BackPack Program (students get nutritious and easy-to-prepare food, so they have food to eat on the weekends). Several of our students are also in a snack program. They receive two snacks a day that they can eat during the school day.
Many of students are just five years old and are just entering school for the first time!
It is so important to me that my students have a positive school experience; they have many years ahead of them.
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, I know the importance of capitalizing on every opportunity for exposing alphabet letter names, letter sounds, and eventually reading words. I love coming up with creative and fun ways that help students learn to read. Using the Scrabble tiles as manipulatives to learn sight words will make learning seem more like a game.
By donating to our project, you will not only help give my kindergarteners opportunities to work on their spelling, reading, and tricky sight words but you will provide them with manipulatives that make learning fun and easy.
There are so many fun ways I can use the tiles and sight word flashcards. My students will be able to use the sight word cards and tiles as a workstation. At the beginning of the school year, students can use the tiles to help practice the letters in their name. They can pick a sight word and build that word with the tiles. We can also use the tiles to practice building consonant vowel consonant (CVC) words. I have so many ways I can utilize all these materials. The storage container will help keep our alphabet tiles organized. Thank you so much for considering our project!
