This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is made up of excited seven and eight-year-old students who love to come to school! They are eager learners and they are excited about what they can learn each day. My students come from low-income families who have very little money for extras.
They need many opportunities to learn about counting and numbers by using a variety of materials.
My students are active learners. They need to build sets and learn about numbers by using cubes, blocks, and links. They need to be able to see Place Value Blocks in a large size so that they can see the differences in ones, tens, and hundreds. They need to have a tactile experience of building two and three digit numbers by using the Base 10 Ten Block Stamps and stamp pads. All of these math materials will help my students to grow and understand how numbers work.
My Project
Developing number sense is an important concept for young learners.
Most young children learn math by manipulating objects, counting and making associations with numbers and their amounts.
I want my students to have a variety of objects to use while learning to count sets and to count by 1's, 5's, 10's, and 100's.
Using Base Ten Stamps, Place Value Blocks, Monkey Math Games, will help students to understand how to group sets to add and subtract, to learn expanded form, and how to compose and decompose two and three digit numbers. All these activities will help my students to develop number sense.
