My students are active and curious learners. They don’t just want to read about the world around them. They want to experiment, investigate, and change the world around them. My learners want to test their ideas with real science equipment and build innovative structures to see how environments can be manipulated or improved. Science can be a difficult subject to write about. Having the opportunity to experiment and report findings will give students a reason to write and use the appropriate science vocabulary.
Appropriate equipment can make all the difference in building a positive academic experience for my students.
We study forces and motion, nationwide weather cycles, physical and chemical changes, as well as ecosystems and biomes. This is a lot to cover and explore. The experiences shared in class will help students not just memorize content, but actually make sense of their world.
My Project
The materials in this project will be used to help the kids become complex thinkers and build an understanding of the world around them. They will use the electricity kit to build an understanding of how energy moves and is stored in the world.
Fifth grade content includes energy transfer, ecosystems and biomes, global weather patterns, and forces and motion.
The materials here will help the kids explore these complex units and make connections to their own lives without looking at a screen all day. The students will be able to explore Newton's laws and calculate speeds of mving objects using data they collect. The hands on approach to their learning is important in helping them become complex thinkers.
