My students inspire me every day. Despite challenging situations, they come to school with a smile on their faces and a thirst for knowledge. We are a magnet program within a large, urban public school district with more than three-quarters of our students meeting the guidelines for free and reduced lunch.
The International Baccalaureate framework allows my students to focus on inquiry, and my science lessons often feature labs and hands-on activities.
In order to provide my students with the hands-on science experiences they need to excel in high school and beyond, my classroom needs several specialized instruments.
My Project
My biology students spend their time learning a plethora of new concepts, facts, and vocabulary terms. As their teacher, my job is to make sure that my students understand the lessons they've learned in class. This means I frequently conduct "check-ins" with my students to see what they understand and what they're still struggling to grasp.
Our classroom needs Post-it notes, index cards, and other paper products for in-class understanding checks.
We plan to use these materials for assessment activities in class. The index cards will be used for making a class set of vocabulary flash cards. The small and large Post-its will both be used for creative check-in activities with my students. Together, these materials will help my students learn about biology while allowing me to assess their understanding of our class.
