I teach students with Autism. I have multiple grades, 1st-5th. I have two little girls and 13 boys. Most of my students have behavior problems, which means they behave better when they can move.
All of my students have the ability to learn, they just have sensory issues that make some things difficult.
My student's families depend on me to teach structure and coping methods that they can transfer to home. I teach at a Title I school, and we have limited resources.
My Project
I am asking for science kits to explore science in my classroom. I teacher first through fifth grade and having hands-on science material would be awesome in small groups. Although my students have various levels of academics, they all can express what they have learned in science. One student who can't read asked a zoo employee if a snake was venomous. Sometimes with students with autism, they are strong in topics that they find interesting. Science activities allow them to participate in school without feeling inadequate. My students would increase their vocabulary and engagement in learning. The kits would assist me in creating small group activities that would be hands-on and engaging.
