Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach full-time Special Education children in a self-contained setting. Each student is uniquely different and has their own strengths. My students learn by doing, seeing, and exploring rather than the traditional note taking and lectures. They love getting out of their seats and it is fun to see them enjoy learning. From building a tower from limited supplies to measuring and collecting data for an experiment using scientific inquiry, they love it. They are eager to learn and be successful, but I need materials to help them. Thank you for considering investing in their future.

My Project

All students benefit from hands-on activities, but especially Special Education students. Hands-on activities are fun, engaging, and promote understanding. Incorporating labs, activities, manipulatives, and technology is important in order to learn, retain knowledge, and become a problem solver. Incorporating manipulatives like fraction tiles with help students visually understand fractions. Building circuits and having interactive labs like the climate change is a fun and a memorable experience. Other fun materials for incorporating science experiments in class are edible labs. Playing games will also allow them to take more risks in a safe activity while getting the extra practice they need for mastery. The items I selected will support mastery of difficult academic concepts through hands-on activities. It will also help my students become better critical thinkers, problem solvers, and promote curiosity. Bringing fun back into learning and making memories that are linked to learning is essential for special needs children.
