My students come from a variety of cultures and backgrounds in an urban neighborhood. They attend an alternative educational program designed for students in elementary and middle school who struggle in a regular school setting for various reasons.
My students deserve to feel proud, believed in, and that they are able to create something wonderful.
They struggle with a range of learning disabilities and emotional disorders, and some lack a stable home life, but even with the external stressors that surround them on a daily basis, they remain hardworking, talented, and driven.
My Project
My students deserve to feel confident and comfortable. Living in a low socioeconomic area, many of my students’ families are unable to afford celebrations and extravagant gifts. These celebratory rewards and supplies are meant to reward students and let them know that they are cared for! The prizes will be used as positive reinforcement and the paper, tape, and pencils will be used to make personalized birthday and holiday cards. These items will all be used to celebrate students’ accomplishments and special occasions helping to create a warm and friendly environment. The requested supplies will increase attendance and directly address the issue of learning gaps created by frequent absences, students will feel special celebrating their birthdays, holidays, successes, and academic achievements.
Positive moments in the classroom go a long way in motivating our students beyond the classroom.
These items are only material, but they represent a larger need in making students feel valued.
