This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a CTE teacher, I have the opportunity to train students for a culinary career. By the time they leave high school, they are prepared to either continue their education in the field or move directly into the workforce.
It is such an inspiration to see the passion that these students are already developing.
My students have a desire to enter the Culinary and Hospitality field as chefs, food service managers, caterers, etc. They look forward to class and are actively involved in not just hands-on labs, but also in studying to earn the nationally recognized ServSafe certification. My students deserve the very highest quality of education and real-world learning available to them to help them succeed.
My Project
Our state has recently revamped its entire Culinary Arts curriculum, and we are currently the only school in the district participating in the limited pilot of the updated course.
My students are being given the opportunity to learn some amazing new skills like grinding and stuffing their own sausage and turning milk into their own cheese!
In order to learn these skills, there are some specialized ingredients and equipment that we require. We are in need of meat grinders and sausage stuffing tubes and casings to fill. Having the attachments to pop onto the KitchenAid mixers that we already have on hand would be very convenient and space-saving.
We are also in need of items like cheesecloth, rennet, calcium chloride, and citric acid that are integral in making cheese, yet aren't available at the local grocery store where we do our normal shopping for class.
