Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“There are many little ways to enlarge your world. Love of books is the best of all.” - Jacqueline Kennedy I love this quote about reading because I believe that teaching my students to read will help them see all of the world! My students attend our school coming from a very high poverty area. However, these children gain so many experiences in the pages of the books that we read. The neighborhood is a very loving place, but we provide a lot of the materials for each student yearly.
My students are kindergarten through fifth grade students that have faced struggles with reading and writing.
Every day we work to better ourselves to be life long lovers of literacy!
My Project
The requested leveled readers will make a difference in my student's life leading them to become lifelong readers. We use different leveled texts daily during small group work to increase reading achievement in all levels at my school. The Pirate Trilogy, About Books set, and Recovery Books list will add additional fiction and non-fiction books to our classroom for daily use.
New books in my school will allow for more student choice, books of various genres, and higher reading achievement rates.
Nothing can replace independent reading time and providing students with leveled texts will help them towards a goal of becoming lifelong readers.
My school theme this year is Super Heroes and we really do want all students to leave the building each day screaming, "Reading is my superpower"!
