Help me give my students quality reading materials to supplement the district curriculum. I have used these in years past and the kids get so excited to read them and share them with their classmates.
I teach at a Title I school in Texas where we have 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. The students on our campus are students from low economic households. Many are fortunate that our school is sponsored by a local organization that helps create a backpack club that provides them with food to eat over the weekend.
Despite the hardships that life has handed these children, they are eager and willing to learn and grow.
They come from little and want to give so much. As they learn the value of education and learn characteristics of a good citizen, they are growing into better citizens for our society. They look challenges in the face and dig deep to overcome them. They come from all walks of life but join together in our classroom to learn.
My Project
The materials here will help us to meet district standards in a very enjoyable way for the students. The topics will spark their interest in not only reading but will help them to orally discuss the information with partners and the class. These are used as a support for our student curriculum and help them make connections to the world around them.I love seeing their faces as they read and discuss these magazines.
We have had a great experience with the short videos that accompany the magazines.
They help the students to feel as if they can relate to the text.
